How To Roast Almonds
Many individuals often want to know how to roast almonds when the holidays are approaching. These wonderful nuts can be a great treat at Christmas time. If you have ever thought about doing this you will be happy to know that the process is not that difficult if you follow a few simple steps. So, purchase some almonds and get ready to enjoy the flavor of a roasted almond.
Once you have purchased your almonds and have brought them home you will want to preheat your oven to 350 degrees. While you are waiting for that, cover a cookie sheet with some aluminum foil. Do not spray anything over the aluminum foil because you will take care of that in the next step. You will them place the almonds on the foil and spread them out. Sprinkle some light vegetable oil over them before you go any further. This is going to add flavor to the nuts and also help keep them from sticking to the foil.
Finally, they are ready to go into the oven. You will want to let them cook for eight to ten minutes in the 360 degree oven. When the time is up you will remove the cookie sheet for the oven and then remove the foil from the cookie sheet. This is going to keep the almonds from continuing to cook on the hot surface. While they are cooling down you can season them with any type of seasoning that you would like. When they are finally cooled and seasoned you will place them in a container and place them out for others to enjoy.
Do you now understand how to roast almonds? Maybe you wanted to make honey roasted almonds. Well, you are in luck because that is what I will cover next. You are going to follow some of the same basic concepts but you will want to pay attention to time and temperature so that the almonds are cooked to perfection.
You will start by cleaning the almonds and rinsing them off in water. Take a cook sheet and line it with some parchment paper rather than aluminum foil. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. While that is heating you are going to warm one cup of honey in a pan on the stove. Add two tablespoons of Chinese five spice to the honey and continually stir it together until the honey is warm and everything is mixed well.
Once this is complete you are going to toss the almonds into the honey mixture as well. You are not trying to cook them; you simply want to coat them with some of the honey. Remove them and place them onto the paper. Do not overlap them. Place them into the preheated oven and cook them for approximately 45 minutes. Be sure to check them on occasion to ensure that they have not burned. When you are about 22 minutes through the baking process you will want to rotate the cookie sheet in the oven. This is going to help keep them from burning and help them cook evenly. Once they have cooked fully you can remove them from the oven and place them on another sheet of parchment paper so that they can cool. They are then ready to eat.
So, now you know how easy this process really is. The next time someone asks you how to roast almonds you will be able to walk them through the process like you are a veteran at it. These are a wonderful treat to be enjoyed by friends and family alike. Take some time to roast some almonds this holiday season.
