A Few Helpful Babysitting Ideas

If you are thinking of starting a day care centre or considering becoming a babysitter, you should start thinking of babysitting ideas. In this type of setting a stranger in the home can cause a little one to become withdrawn and even a bit scared. But if you take the time to find out what the little ones you are caring for like to do, then half the battle is over. When thinking about new babysitting ideas, you must take age into consideration.

If the child you are taking care of is 6 months to 2 years of age you might not have a lot of time to entertain the toddler. Instead, some good babysitting ideas would be to make sure the child’s diaper is clean and that it isn’t hungry. If it is attempting to walk you can put a blanket down and help the baby. Make sure that you keep close attention to the baby around the corners of tables and around any glass or sharp metal objects that may be in the area. It is not a good idea to just leave the baby in its playpen and go on watching TV or playing music. If you have a chore to do, you can put the baby into a walker or swing device, so that it is moving and playing but can still clearly see you. If all the child’s needs are met and they still seem a bit bored there are activities these younger kids can enjoy. Play dough, silly string and finger painting are all things these tots love to do.

Children between the ages of 2 to 5 years old are possibly the easiest of all to take care of. They have plenty of energy and they really want to learn new things. Although you may have to watch them closely because they are so fast, you can get them into almost any game that is age appropriate. These kids like to play, so a trip to the playground or park is perfect to avoid boredom. Encourage the kids to play on the monkey bars or see saw to make sure they get plenty of exercise. It is also a good idea to pack their lunches, so you do not have to make a trip home to eat. If you lay out a blanket and make it an official picnic, the kids will enjoy it more and you even get them to eat a bit. After a day at the park the kids will undoubtedly need a little down time, which gives you an opportunity to prepare dinner.

Babysitting children ages 5 and up can be a bit difficult. These kids have begun to figure out how to use the television remote and computer and although their parents have limits, they may test yours. Instead of sitting in front of the computer or TV, get the kids into doing some kind of craft. There are so many inexpensive ways to do this. For instance, you can teach a child how to do macramé or have them paint you a picture. Kids this age also like to learn new things. Take them on a nature walk to see plants and insects or even fishing. Games are fun for kids and this is a great age to introduce them to board games like Monopoly or checkers. These games teach kids how to read and comprehend information and can even be considered educational.

The best babysitting ideas come from knowing a child and assessing what they would like to do. If you are creative you shouldn’t have a problem establishing a long time friendship and trust from the child you are caring for.
